Never say Never
One of the things that I can remember telling my momma that I would never do is hang my clothes on the line to dry! I remember just like yesterday her saying, "Cara when you get home from school, get those clothes in off the line before you go anywhere". I would always say "ugh, I don't know why you even hang out clothes on the line, it's not like we don't have a dryer". And it was right beside the washing machine, not out in the back yard... "When I move out you'll never come to my house and see clothes on the line. I don't even want a clothes line!"Well, of course, I've eat those words quite a few times since then. I love the smell of fresh dried clothes brought in from outside... I love it so much that I don't even like to use my dryer! Except when I bring them in I like to put them in the dryer for just long enough that maybe if there was a spider or wasp or other varmint in one of them, the dryer heat will burn it up.
This morning we had a birthday party and when we got home Dawson was ready for a nap. I had about 3 loads of clothes so I washed them and put them on the line.
Just as I got all of them hung out I noticed a little thunder in the distance... "Nah, it'll never rain here, the sun is shining." I thought to myself. So I'm watching out the window every couple of minutes hoping that it isn't going to rain on my clothes. Even though I know there is a higher power!!
I was just thinking on the way home from the party. "I really need to water my mums, they are pretty dry again". (The Good Lord was listening to my thoughts.)
I see a few raindrops on the window. So I'll run out and at least get my towels in. I now realize that Momma was right again when she said "Cara, they will dry faster if you hang them out". It takes about three hours in the dryer and only about an hour on the clothesline.
We've had such a lack of rain here this year I'm always leary of taking off all of the clothes. Anytime I take off all of the clothes. The rain cloud goes just to the north, or just to the south and we stay dry. So needless to say I have two loads still on the line now... Really really wet that will have to be rewashed tomorrow..
Thanks Mom, for turning me into a clothesline freak!!! The clean fresh smell is still worth the extra effort every time!
So I can live without a clothes dryer but not the dishwasher. Yesterday after cooking spaghetti, I filled it up and turned it on. Only to realize that it's broke!! Oh No! Call the dishwasher fixer man right now please! Of course it's the weekend and those men like a break too... So what does that mean? No Sunday dinner for this family... I'm not cooking and cleaning it. It took me an hour to wash and dry all of the dishes from lunch yesterday. So I'm boycotting the kitchen until the dishwasher is fixed, hopefully Monday.
Thank God and Dixie for paper plates and cups!! Pizza is on the menu all weekend!
Hope you all have a great rest of the weekend!
